Architecture

Group Leader: Luke Pickering

Objectives of the Group

We are a large and friendly Group, who are interested in the buildings and settlements of the local area. We arrange talks in the winter months and trips to towns, villages and individual buildings once the weather gets warmer. We have a varied programme which includes the ancient and modern, usually with knowledgeable local guides. Our tours often finish in the local pub or teashop!

We meet on the third Thursday of the month, generally at 10.30am. Some of our visits do have limited numbers and we have Booking Forms at the General Meetings where you can put your name down. If you have any questions, please phone Luke on 07774 251197.

See below for photos taken at some of our events, and reports are accessible.

WALKING TOUR OF HORNCASTLE

THURSDAY 9 MAY 2024 – 10.15AM FOR 10.30AM START

Our guide, Paul Scott, will take us on a walk around Horncastle pointing out buildings of Architectural and Historical interest. Paul is a resident of Horncastle and a Trustee of the Sir Joseph Banks Society. Some members will recall that he gave a talk on Sir Joseph Banks at a Garden Group meeting last year. On this occasion, he will be sharing his knowledge of the architecture and hidden secrets of this lovely market town.

We will meet up at the Sir Joseph Banks Centre on Bridge Street. The tour will take approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours. There is a £3 per person charge and we will collect payments on arrival.

Paul has kindly provided a map of Horncastle to help us find car parks and the Sir Joseph Banks Centre. Members may have enough energy after the tour to explore the town or seek refreshments. The map also lists and indicates the various restaurants, pubs, cafes, toilets and shops, together with the 15 Antique Dealers!

A maximum of 20 members can be taken on the walk, therefore early booking is recommended to secure a place. The booking form will be available on the Architecture table at the 4 April General Meeting. A copy of the map and final details will be emailed to the members who have a place on the tour, shortly before 9 May 2024.
